So...Winter, well, yea, ugh, winter, it's a tough time to ride. A couple people (looking at you Steven Cook) have been bugging me about not writing. The conversation usually goes like this. "There is nothing to write about right now." "Just talk about your rides, that'll be good." Okay, let's talk about my rides, because you all care. Is anyone really interested that I completely blew another town line spring? Or climbed another hill? Or did a sweet wheelie on my commute to class? Or jumped a rock garden on my road bike while descending gravel? Which apparently isn’t normal? I'm not sure what else you do in that situation. So after pondering this I thought about what has been good and worth mentioning/bragging about. No not another couple hours spinning the pedals around in frigid temperatures but about the great people I get to do it with. What has been good and interesting for me? It is the day spent tearing up gravel and hills with Will and Steven. The gorgeous Sunday afternoon spent with Lorenzo and Saul looking at all Lorenzo's best box architecture. A super cold Saturday "shredding the gnar" (good luck interpreting that Carlo) with Seth and Carlo. The casual afternoon ride across water with Gavin. Each and every ride with the Fortuna crew. That's what it's all about.
I know this topic of community has been written about ad nauseam but I thought I should join the fray and knock out the community blog for the year early [okay no promises there won't be another]. I have been thinking about this a little bit more than normal as the race season closes in. Our first official club race is on February 15th and with a couple "races" before then. I am pumped to race, but more than that I'm pumped to get back and hang out with the ACCC mountain bike crew. Been a long time since hanging out with them and that is what makes racing bikes so much fun. So in the midst of winter Pain Caves and roller rides I just had to think of something to get me excited and happy about riding again. It's thinking of all the great rides to come over the next many months with so many great people. It's about the rides that may not feel blog worthy and may seem uninteresting but that nonetheless are some of the best times on the bike. So to all those that make spending time in the saddle so worthwhile, thanks and cheers to better rides to come.
That all being said, race season is essentially here (finally). As I said 1st official race on the 15th but I just went down to Blacksburg for Andrew Gold a part of the Blacksburg Classics series of "race rides" and good old Pantani is looming in the distance this coming Sunday. A couple posts on both events are currently in the works, hopefully the pre-Pantani blog gets done before Pantani.
Keep those pedals spinning,
